Reporting an error
Tell us through our contact page. Please include the article headline, the passage you think is wrong, and — if you have one — the source that shows the correct position. Reports about a stated legal position are prioritised.
What we do
An editor checks the report against the primary source. If we were wrong, we correct the article and note the correction on the page, including what changed and when. If the law has since moved on, we update the article and refresh the date on which the legal position was checked.
Clarifications
Where an article was accurate but capable of being misread — most often about which UK nations it applies to — we add a clarification rather than silently rewriting the text.
Unpublishing
We do not delete articles to hide mistakes. In rare cases where an article cannot be corrected — for example where the underlying rights are withdrawn — we unpublish it and keep the address working with an explanation or a redirect to more current coverage.
Record keeping
Every publication, correction and unpublishing decision is logged internally with the editor responsible and the reason, so the history of an article can always be reconstructed.
